Louisiana Tech University management major Carolyn D. Chadwick was recently recognized as the Delta Sigma Pi Regional Collegian of the Year for the Gulf South region, a competitive award selected from local chapter Collegians of the Year and approved by national headquarters.

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity whose purpose is to ensure that business students are exposed to and practice ethical business practices for the mutual advancement of the corporate world and the local community.

Chadwick was also named the Delta Sigma Pi Beta Psi Chapter Collegian of the Year, an award given annually to the collegiate member of Louisiana Tech’s chapter who shows the qualities and values of the organization and demonstrates the ideals of the chapter’s purpose. The award recognizes selected members for their contributions, achievements, participation, and personal character.

“Knowing that my fraternity brothers see and appreciate what I do for the betterment of our members, business students, and our community means more to me than I can possibly put into words,” said Chadwick, who serves as president of the Beta Psi chapter. “Joining this organization has helped me learn that I can work smarter, not harder. I felt a relief to learn, like all other students, I’m not in this alone.”

In order to be considered for the aforementioned awards, members must be in good standing and nominated by a collegiate chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. Chapters and committees consider involvement, leadership attributes, conference attendance, service involvement, personal character, professional attitude, and scholastic aptitude requirements in determining the Collegian of the Year.

“All of my accomplishments could not have been achieved without the members supporting my vision and goals for the organization, in particular our adviser, Dr. Mike Luehfling, our district director, Devin Chadwick, and the faculty and staff of the College of Business,” Chadwick said.

Louisiana Tech’s chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is involved in numerous community activities. The organization offers professional outreach to students through resume preparation training in conjunction with on-campus student services and the College of Business Employer Reception. Delta Sigma Pi contributes to community service events including Community Christmas and the Big Event, each an opportunity to give back to the people of Ruston and beyond. The organization fundraises and hosts social events, selling lunch plates to faculty, students, and local businesses in order to support future programming.

The Beta Psi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi was established at Louisiana Tech in 1948, and since then has initiated nearly 2,000 members. Originally founded at New York University in 1907, the mission of the professional international fraternity is to foster the study of business, to encourage scholarship and the association of students, to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of business, to further a high standard of business ethics and culture, and to promote the civic and commercial welfare of the community. The organization was the first professional business fraternity open to all people not previously allowed in other organizations, including women who were first initiated in 1975. Membership in Delta Sigma Pi is open to all business majors.
