Louisiana Tech University launches School of Banking

Jan 7, 2022 | Business, Innovation

Registration is now open for the inaugural cohort of Louisiana Tech University’s School of Banking. Presented by the College of Business in collaboration with the Louisiana Bankers Association (LBA), this professional development program aims to expand the skills and knowledge base of rising bank leaders, regulators, and vendors. Classes will take place June 6-10, 2022, and June 5-9, 2023.

“Our strategic focus on financial technology, innovation, regional economic development, and information security will help our state’s bankers further hone skills that have become increasingly critical to the banking industry,” said Dr. Chris Martin, dean of Louisiana Tech’s College of Business. “We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of bankers to campus this summer, and are grateful for the support of our sponsors and the LBA.”

Courses taught by Louisiana Tech faculty members, top banking executives, regulators, and select services providers will cover a variety of topics, including operations, risk management, liquidity, marketing and sales, and regulation.

“The Louisiana Tech University School of Banking provides our emerging leaders with a unique opportunity to refine their skills and expand their knowledge of the banking industry in ways that it would be difficult for them to access in the midst of their daily responsibilities,” said Jude Melville, president and CEO of b1BANK. “We especially like the fact the school is focused on younger employees. The more young people we can get energized about the impact they can have through a career in community banking, the more impactful our organization and our industry will be over time.”

On-campus BankExec simulations and off-campus case studies completed between years will complement and enhance classroom discussions. Additionally, on- and off-campus networking and mentoring will take place throughout the two-year cohort.

“Bankers asked for a two-year banking school that could provide bank-wide training, and, by collaborating with Louisiana Tech University, the School of Banking has become a reality,” said Ginger Laurent, chief executive officer for the LBA. “Louisiana Tech University’s commitment to cybersecurity and entrepreneurship gives this School some unique characteristics. We are thrilled to partner with Louisiana Tech, bankers, and bank consultants to bring this School to life.”

b1BANK has joined forces with the College of Business, offering their support as presenting sponsor.

“We are always looking for ways to invest in our industry and, by extension, our community,” said Melville. “The Louisiana Tech School of Banking is an opportunity to partner with two terrific organizations: Louisiana Tech and the Louisiana Bankers Association. That affiliation gives me confidence our time, energies, and resources will not only be well spent but multiplied over coming years.”
